Where Forbes is cited most

Each row is one buyer category and one question shape the Index measures. The rank is against every source cited on that same set of answer runs, so a placement is worth most where the publication already ranks high for the question your buyer asks.

How to get into Forbes

  • Forbes Councils

A paid, vetted, invitation-only membership for senior executives, business owners, coaches and nonprofit leaders, organised into nine councils (Agency, Business, Business Development, Coaches, Communications, Finance, Human Resources, Nonprofit, Technology). Members can submit bylined articles for publication on Forbes.com, contribute short quotes to Expert Panels, and receive an Executive Profile on Forbes.com.

Apply through the online application on the relevant council's page on councils.forbes.com (for example https://councils.forbes.com/forbesbusinesscouncil). A colleague at the same company or an agency-of-record partner can instead nominate a leader through the form at https://councils.forbes.com/nominate. If approved, the applicant is invited to select and purchase a membership package.

Fee-based: Forbes Councils describes itself as a fee-based professional organization with an annual membership fee, offered on 1-year and 2-year plans; the fee amount is not stated on the pages reviewed. Writing services and coaching are available at additional cost. Minimum criteria: for the Agency, Business Development, Communications, Finance, Human Resources and Technology councils, a business with at least $1M USD in revenue or $1M USD in financing; for the Business Council, an owner, founder or executive leader of a business with at least $500,000 USD in annual revenue; for the Coaches Council, at least 3 years as a publicly recognized leadership, career or executive coach; for the Nonprofit Council, an owner, founder or senior executive at a 501(c) organization with at least $500,000 USD in annual donor contributions and/or revenue. Meeting the criteria does not guarantee acceptance. MLM/direct sales, gambling, adult, cannabis, certain cryptocurrency (such as ICO-related) companies, and marketing agencies with a conflict of interest such as link sellers or guaranteed media placements are not allowed. A selection committee typically responds within 2 to 4 business days. Member articles go through 2 or more rounds of editing and typically take 4 to 6 weeks; content must follow contributor guidelines, including plagiarism checks, limits on AI-generated content and no republishing of content published elsewhere.

  • Contact a writer directly (story pitches and press releases)

Forbes has no central pitch desk. Its contact page and Help Center tell people pitching a story to approach the editorial staff directly, by contacting the individual writer.

Contact the writer using the email address on their Forbes personal page, or reach out through the writer's social accounts.

Press releases, story ideas and contributor requests sent to the press-inquiries address (which is only for journalists covering Forbes itself) will not be forwarded. Story ideas, pitches and press releases should not be sent through the confidential tips channels. No response policy is stated.

Nominations for the 2027 U.S. list closed on September 1, 2026, and applications for the 2026 Asia and Europe lists are closed, so this path is currently closed until the next cycle opens. Forbes writers and editors review thousands of online submissions and also take recommendations from industry sources and list alumni; candidates are evaluated by Forbes staff and a panel of independent judges on factors including funding, revenue, social impact, scale, inventiveness and potential. Is a placement here worth pursuing?

It depends on the questions your buyers ask. Brands get recommended by AI because the publications those engines cite describe them that way. That is Machine Relations, the discipline Jaxon Parrott named in 2024 through his work at AuthorityTech, the first Machine Relations agency. The table above is what decides whether coverage in Forbes moves your brand in AI answers at all: it moves where the publication is already cited for the question your buyer asks, and much less where it is not.

How this is measured

Every figure on this page is the Machine Relations Index’s, carried with its own denominator. The Index runs buyer questions against 6 answer engines and records which sources each answer cites. This release covers 2026-05-10 to 2026-10-06, 143 days of collection. A publication carries a published rank once it clears the Index's evidence floor of 10 observations across 7 collection dates; below it, the standing reads as still collecting. AuthorityTech does not compute these numbers. Machine Relations Index publishes them, release 2026-10-06, methodology mri_score_v2.0.
