Short answer: Scrunch is strongest when you need three systems together: AI-answer monitoring, verified agent-traffic analytics and agent-facing content delivery. Its documented monitoring covers eight AI experiences, its traffic product reads CDN or hosting data, and its AXP product can serve a structured version of a page to LLM bots. The trade-off is category standing: Scrunch was named in 39 of 792 monitored AI-visibility answers, behind Profound, Semrush, Peec AI, Otterly.AI and Ahrefs. Buy Scrunch for the combined workflow. Compare alternatives if you need the tool AI engines recommend most often, an SEO suite you already run, or a simpler monitoring-only product.

This review scores Scrunch against the same seven-part buyer rubric used for Profound, Semrush, Conductor and Ahrefs Brand Radar: data accuracy, model coverage, agent analytics, LLM optimization, prompt volume, citation analysis and metrics.

The product claims come from Scrunch's own documentation, checked September 29, 2026. The market evidence comes from the Machine Relations Index, not Scrunch's marketing.

Key numbers

  • 12 citations in 18,368 monitored runs. scrunch.com had a 0.07% citation rate in the current Index release.

What the citation data says about Scrunch

Machine Relations Index release mri_score_v2.0+2026-09-29+3d7cca280bd7 covers 18,368 answer runs across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity from May 10 to September 29, 2026. Scrunch appeared as a cited source in 12 runs, across five observed engines and four days.

That shape matters more than the aggregate. Scrunch is cited most often when an answer explains how to choose an AI-visibility platform. It is much less established as a source for direct comparisons and top lists.

The Index answer ledger measures a second outcome: whether an engine names the vendor in its answer, even when it cites somebody else's page. Across 792 answers from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity to AI-visibility buyer questions, engines named Scrunch 39 times. Twenty of those were “best tools” answers and 16 were top lists.

Scrunch is on the category shortlist, but it does not own it. Its product is broader than its current answer-time standing.

Data accuracy

Scrunch says it uses platform-specific collection methods and then applies machine learning and natural-language processing to extract brand presence, competitive presence, answer position, sentiment and citations. New prompts run daily for their first 14 days and default to a 72-hour cadence after that.

That is a sensible operating model. It is not one universal measurement method. AI platforms expose different interfaces, localize answers, change models and sometimes return different answers to the same prompt minutes apart. Scrunch's own product page says its collection stack uses a mix of browser automation, official APIs and direct integrations.

The right demo test is not “is the dashboard accurate?” Ask for ten raw answers behind one score. For each, require the prompt, engine, country, model or experience, timestamp, full answer and cited URLs. Then recalculate one presence rate and one citation rate yourself. If the export reconciles, the score is useful. If it does not, the polished chart is decoration.

Model coverage

Scrunch documents eight monitored AI experiences: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Meta AI and Microsoft Copilot. Its pricing documentation narrows coverage by plan, so buyers should confirm the list in the contract rather than relying on the global capability page.

Broad coverage is useful because a blended score hides material differences. One brand may be recommended by Gemini, absent from ChatGPT and cited without being named in Copilot. Scrunch lets users select platforms while creating prompts and filter results by platform later.

The limitation is comparability. Google AI Overviews is a search-result feature; Claude is a conversational assistant; Meta AI and Copilot have different retrieval surfaces. One “visibility” number across all eight is only as meaningful as its denominator. Keep the engine-level rows visible.

Agent analytics

This is Scrunch's clearest strength. Agent Traffic connects to Akamai, AWS CloudFront, Cloudflare, Fastly, Vercel and WordPress. Scrunch says it reports bot volume by agent, the pages requested and whether the visit was for training, indexing or live retrieval. It also offers a Cloudflare proxy route for sites whose CMS does not expose raw CDN logs.

That is more useful than a JavaScript analytics tag. Bots do not reliably execute client-side analytics, and a user-agent string alone can be spoofed. OpenAI documents separate controls for OAI-SearchBot and GPTBot, while Cloudflare publishes verified bot categories for crawler, search and user-directed traffic. The proof to request is Scrunch's verification rule for each agent and the raw request fields behind the label.

Scrunch also separates machine visits from human referral traffic. With a GA4 connection, it reports AI-referred sessions, landing pages, conversions and revenue where GA4 is configured. That separation is important: an AI crawler fetching a page is not a human visit, and neither one proves the brand was recommended.

LLM optimization

Scrunch goes beyond monitoring with its Agent Experience Platform, or AXP. The product creates an agent-facing representation of site content and serves it to LLM bots while leaving the human page and traditional search crawler experience unchanged. Scrunch says the intent and information remain the same, with the content reformatted for machine comprehension.

This is distinctive, and it deserves more scrutiny than a normal content recommendation. Any system that serves one representation to AI agents and another to human browsers creates a governance obligation. Buyers should require:

  1. A diff between the human page and the agent-facing version.
  2. An approval and rollback path for every generated change.
  3. Proof that facts, qualifications and legal language survive transformation.
  4. A clean answer for which bots receive the alternate representation.
  5. A measured before-and-after result on retrieval and citation, not only crawl volume.

Scrunch's cloaking FAQ argues that AXP is not deceptive because it preserves intent and excludes traditional crawlers. That is the vendor's position. Your risk, legal and web teams should verify the implementation on your own site.

Prompt volume

Scrunch is built for large prompt programs. Its enterprise page says customers monitor millions of prompts, and its guidance recommends building prompt sets from topic clusters, funnel stages, branded and non-branded variants, personas and geography.

The published planning method is concrete: group demand into topic clusters, write 12 to 15 questions per cluster, run them for at least two weeks, then prune prompts that add no unique coverage. Scrunch's own example turns 300 clusters into roughly 4,500 prompts.

Volume alone is not an advantage. Ten thousand synthetic prompts can measure a market nobody inhabits. Ask how Scrunch grounds prompt selection in your Search Console, paid-search queries, sales calls and AI referral behavior. A smaller set tied to buyer decisions is usually more valuable than a huge generic panel.

Citation analysis

Scrunch's Citations dashboard separates owned, competitor and third-party sources. Users can filter by domain or page and inspect unique prompt count, total citations, citation consistency and an Influence Score based on response share multiplied by unique prompts.

The filtering is unusually complete: timeframe, branded versus non-branded prompts, prompt topic, citation topic, platform, persona, funnel stage, country, custom tags and source owner.

Scrunch also explicitly recommends outreach to third-party sources when a brand needs more mentions. That is the correct boundary. The software can identify the source. It cannot make an independent publisher include the brand.

One caution: Influence Score multiplies two measures created inside the tracked prompt set. It is useful for prioritizing within that set, not a market-share estimate. Keep the raw source URL, response count and prompt count beside it.

Metrics

Scrunch reports brand presence, answer placement, sentiment, share of voice, citations, agent traffic and AI referral outcomes. Sentiment can be sliced by platform, persona, funnel stage, country, topic and individual prompt. Share of voice can be filtered the same way.

That breadth is good if the outcomes remain separate:

  • Named: the answer writes the brand.
  • Cited: the answer links to a source.
  • Crawled: an agent requests a page.
  • Referred: a person clicks from an AI platform.
  • Converted: that person completes a measured action.

Collapsing those into one score destroys the causal chain. Scrunch has the raw families needed to keep them apart. Make sure your dashboard does.

Pricing

Scrunch's pricing page, checked September 29, 2026, lists:

  • Starter: $250 per month billed annually or $300 month-to-month; three users, 350 custom prompts, 1,000 industry prompts, three personas and five page audits.
  • Growth: $417 per month billed annually or $500 month-to-month; five users, 700 custom prompts, 2,500 industry prompts, five personas and ten page audits.
  • Enterprise: custom pricing, with expanded scale, enterprise security, data API access and dedicated support.
  • Trial: seven days on Starter, with no credit card required on the current pricing page.

Scrunch has changed plan names and limits before. Treat the live quote and order form as the source of truth.

Who should buy Scrunch

  • An enterprise brand that wants answer monitoring and verified AI-bot traffic in the same system.
  • A web team prepared to integrate CDN or hosting data.
  • A company willing to govern and test an agent-facing content layer.
  • An agency or multi-brand team that needs persona, funnel, geography and source-owner filters.

Who should look elsewhere

  • A small team that needs only basic prompt monitoring.
  • A buyer who wants the vendor AI engines name most often today; that is Profound on this evidence.
  • A team that wants AI visibility bundled into an existing SEO subscription.
  • A company unwilling to maintain a second agent-facing representation of site content.

Where earned media still fits

Scrunch is unusually honest about the boundary. Its citation documentation tells users to identify third-party sources and pursue brand placement in them. That work is not a dashboard feature. It is earned media.

The Index evidence shows why. Scrunch's product can observe eight AI experiences and classify agent traffic, yet scrunch.com itself appeared in only 12 of 18,368 monitored runs. Product capability and answer-time authority are different assets.

The same is true for your brand. Monitoring tells you where the gap is. Agent analytics tells you whether engines can retrieve your pages. AXP can change how your owned information is presented to a bot. None of those puts your company into the independent reviews, trade publications and expert lists the engines already use to decide whom to recommend.

Machine Relations is the discipline that treats those layers as one system. AuthorityTech is the earned-media practice that closes the third-party source gap.

Sources and method

Citation standings come from Machine Relations Index release mri_score_v2.0+2026-09-29+3d7cca280bd7, covering May 10 to September 29, 2026, read from the scrunch.com profile. Vendor-naming counts come from 792 captured answers from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity to AI-visibility buyer questions, with links and domains removed before matching vendor names. Google AI Mode and AI Overviews are excluded from the name count because their captured text includes source labels.

Product facts were read September 29, 2026 from Scrunch's enterprise page, pricing page, platform FAQ, collection-method FAQ, citation FAQ, bot-traffic FAQ and AXP FAQ. A citation, name, crawl or referral is an observed outcome; none proves what caused it.

FAQ

Scrunch is worth shortlisting if your team will use both monitoring and CDN-level agent analytics, or if you specifically want to test its AXP delivery layer. It is harder to justify for a team that needs only a small prompt tracker.

What are the best Scrunch alternatives?

Profound for broad enterprise AI visibility, Semrush or Ahrefs for teams already invested in an SEO suite, Peec AI for focused self-serve monitoring, and Conductor for enterprise citation and sentiment analysis.

How much does Scrunch cost?

The current pricing page starts at $250 per month billed annually for Starter, lists Growth at $417 per month annually, and quotes Enterprise separately. Month-to-month prices are higher.

Which AI platforms does Scrunch track?
