A Forrester analyst named Amy Bills published a short piece in February. The title was dry: "Customers Hold the Key to Your New AEO Strategy." But the argument inside it was sharper than most of what's circulated in this space this year.

Here's what Forrester found: 76% of B2B decision-makers who contribute to content have already created new guidelines or reviewed their content process specifically because of generative AI. They know the rules changed. What most teams haven't done yet is connect their customer proof assets — the case studies sitting in a folder, the testimonials on a PDF, the win stories living in the sales deck — to the AI visibility strategy.

Why AI engines cite customer stories over brand claims
AI engines doing vendor research have one core job: find the most credible, independently verifiable answer and surface it. A brand-authored blog post describing its own product is the lowest-trust input in that system. A third-party source quoting a named customer with a specific, verifiable outcome is the highest.
